U.S.S. Bennington CV-20 Letters From Tokyo BayThese letters are part of a larger group that came from the estate of Henry W. Graybill Seaman First Class Radioman He served on Admiral Sprague's Staff aboard the USS Bennington And served on the USS Lexington.See my other sale for his war time diary, Wartime yearbook, Letters, radio communiques and more.These letters were written by Graybill to his father.The one with the Tokyo Bay Japanese battle flag is the first letter that Graybill could write without being censored. He tells his father in two pages about their Task Force and how on the day of Surrender The Japanese attacked and they shot down almost half their planes. This is an excellent historical letter about those final days and the plane's victory formations.There is a letter from the 15th of September when they went into Yokosuka. Seven pages of commentary on the Japanese and their ways. The children, cigarettes, souvenirs, destruction of the city and more. An unbelievable insight by one of the first Americans in Japan right after the surrender.A letter about the surrender and the end of the war.
