Thisisa veryscarce original FirstWorld Warcover, sent fromSuez in July 1915 by an Australian soldier in the 5th InfantryBrigade, Australian Imperial Force, who landed at Gallipoli in August. The cover is in excellent condition, as shown.The cover is marked "No Stamps Available", and in the lower left corner is marked: "From SuezGovernment Hospital, Satchell." There is a 22 July 1915 cancel from Suez Station.
(*** The cover was sent to Mrs. C.W. Satchell of Sydney. Her son, PrivateWilfred C.C. Satchell, served in Gallipoli with the 19th Australian Infantry Battalion.He later served in France with his battalion, being commissioned as a 2ndLieutenant in 1917. Hewon the Military Cross in August 1918 at the Battle of Amiens. He was decorated by King George Vat Buckingham Palace in March of 1919.
