This WWII USAAF A-2 was part of a friends lifetime collection that I will be selling over the next few months. It is an original WWII AAF A-2 made by Aero Leather Clothing Co. with a period made/sewn 340th Fighter Squadron patch.

This A-2 is the real deal and shows average wear commensurate with its age (see photos). The thick leather shell is of excellent quality and remains supple/durable. The exterior is very solid overall and without issues excepting some minor topical flaking to the collar fold (see photos). Upper left chest area has a period made/sewn 340th Fighter Squadron patch that measures 5.175 inches in diameter (see photos). No other patches or namestrips have ever been sewn to this jacket. Knit cuffs and waistband are later style replacements and are as new with none of the usual small snags or losses (see photos). Zipper run is the original small tooth Conmar that works properly (see photos).

Original brown lining remains solid overall with some light age soiling (see photos). There are some small losses to the collar area and some lightly worn areas above the waistband (see photos). Nomenclature label near the collar is present and shows manufacture by Aero Leather Clo. Co., Beacon, N.Y. (see photos). The small size tag below the label shows size as 40 but the jacket fits the mannequin as a size 36 (see photos). Lining is period stenciled with the original pilot owners name: F.B. Laseck, Army serial number 0-814707 to the center (see photos).

The 340th was activated in late 1942 as a P-47 Thunderbolt Fighter Squadron. They deployed to the Pacific in June 1943 and were stationed in New Guinea and subsequently the Philippines They were upgraded to P-51D Mustangs in early 1945. In April 1946 the squadron returned to the United States and was demobilized and inactivated.

Measurements for this jacket are: shoulder seam to shoulder seam across the back – 18 inches, shoulder seam to the end of the cuff material – 24 inches, base seam of collar to bottom of waistband material - 24 inches. Armpit to armpit across the front - 21.5 inches.

This is a real WWII made AAF A-2 jacket that is solid overall and made by a quality maker. It has never been fooled with, is named and has a period made/sewn 340th Fighter Squadron patch. It would be great for a WWII AAF display. Absolutely guaranteed as described. It's very tough to find a named 5th AF fighter pilots jacket.
