A little bio about me….
My parents met in High School and married right after graduation . They both grew up in strict conservative households and were as preppy as you could be in the early 1960’s. They settled down and started having kids, a normal suburban Southern California family…until they took a road trip to San Francisco one summer day to get away from the heat as my mom used to tell me. That trip changed everything for them. They fell in love with the hippie lifestyle, the freedom, the music, the groovy vibe. They moved to S.F. a couple months later. Rented an apartment, grew their hair and raised us completely different from their upbringing. My brothers still live in Northern California.
Around that time, my mom who loved to paint and do pottery stumbled upon Margaret Keane’s work and started collecting her artwork. Whether at street fairs or yard sales, this love of the Keane art work has continued for my mom for decades. Our house was filled with little kids with big eyes staring at me and I often wondered if there were really kids with eyes like that somewhere in the world.
Anyway, I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because I inherited the love of Margaret Keane’s work and have been an avid collector myself for many, many years.
Some of you may remember a Keane print hanging in your home or in someone’s home you frequented as a kid. They bring back a lot of memories for people and I hope the print you buy from me will continue the tradition with your family.
