Washington Us Revenue Stamp Scott R94a / Last Will & Testament William Howe 1863:
This listing is for a will with a green $10 Washington Inter Revenue Conveyance stamp on it. The document is the handwritten last will and testament / deed of William Howe ( Otsego County New York, 1809 - 1863 ). Wm. Howe was a grandson of Captain Artemus Howe (also misspelled "How" on old military documents) through his father Levi Howe. Artemus Howe was in command of a company of minutemen in the Lexington Alarm (first battle of the Revolutionary War). I am not a stamp guy, but the stamp looks good, though the left cut is right at the line near the middle. The stamp is cancelled in black writing "A & H May 5th 1863". The folds on the draft do not intersect the stamp. The document has three papers (the first two are filled front and back, and the third has a blank bottom portion torn off).
