Watercolor/graphite Drawing Unsigned But Lovely, Very Detailed Renaissance Scene:
Offered here is a really delightful, well-drawn and highly detailed scene which, by the costumes and setting, appears to be either in the Renaissance or the Elizabethan period. I expect that it was probably an illustration for a book, but since the work is not signed, I cannot determine where it was used, if ever.
The artist has skillfully rendered in great detail the intricate costumes that both women and men are wearing as well as the peacock perched on the wall overlooking the fountain. The background is sketched in with a gray wash.
Whoever the artist was, she/he was very adept. I am speculating that the watercolor was made around 1900, since I think the frame was probably original to the painting, and the frame appears to me to be from the turn of the 20th century.
This watercolor/drawing is from my personal collection which I am beginning to sell off. Unless noted otherwise in the description, the prints and art that I sell are not "reproductions". For example, offered maps are of the period. Please check my other listings for additional items of interest. I will combine shipping.
