Some more information about this Waterman pen................
This MINT condition RARE early Canada F.D.W. Waterman 52 was made in the early 1920s. It is a pre RIPPLE example made of mixed Red and Black Hard Rubber to create a swirl, mottled or wood effect that later became known as ripple. The colour is superb. As good as you will ever see, Zerooxidizationor fade. The red orange swirls are rich in color like when new. Rare! These model 52 are a great full senior sized pen at 13.7cm or 5.4 inch when capped.
This pen is in pristine condition with zero, dents, scratches, bite marks, cracks or splits. The clip and lever are yellow gold plated and also in superb condition with no plate loss or brassing. Very rare. Once in the hand to the naked eye this pen looks almost good as new. This is a VERY rare survivor indeed. To find them so clean and all parts original is rocking horse manure rare. All the 3 line Waterman barrel signatures are deep, crisp and unpolished. They read, PATENTED - OCT, 9, 1906 - WATERMAN'S (IDEAL logo) FOUNTAIN - PEN. CANADA - FEB. 9, 1909. It also has its model number 52 stamped on the bottom.
The F.D.W. (Frank D. Waterman) Canada Number 2, 14K Nib writes with a medium line at normal pressure. Better flex than the New York 2 nibs. This Canada 2 nib has wonderful medium soft flex that allows for line width variation. Byapplyinga little pressure this medium nib easily writes, Medium Broad line. Add a little more pressure for Broad and Double Broad etc. This nib is as good as they get. Wonderful creative nib that gives your handwriting tons of personality. These nibs are less sharp or paper scratchy than the extra fine examples or the cursive fine. These nibs tines end in a twist so they write on a flat curve edge rather than sharp point. This makes for a smooth and fluid line. Very User friendly nib.
Just serviced it works 100% as when new. To fill could not be easier. Simply pull lever down 90 degree and then place nib in ink. Close the lever down flush. Take nib out of ink. Wipe excess. Done. Takes seconds.
This pen is ready to write. Just add ink. Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a quality fountain pen........
