Some more information about this Waterman pen................This Waterman 94 in Blue RIPPLE is very rare. What a beauty and writes even better. The pen is hard rubber. No one else to my knowledgeachievedblue rubber. It is the last of the great Rubber Waterman pens. To add green yellow swirls to the blue rubber was simply showing off. The pen has no dents, scratches or bite marks etc. The Waterman RIPPLE imprints on the barrel are crisp and clear. Rare to find them so clean. The pens cap clip was removed at some stage by a previous owner for what ever reason. The cap has zero damage and a replacement cap clip could be fit by a jeweler if you really wanted. The clips are not rare. I have fit the pen with a superb 1920s Waterman Ideal gold plated pocket clip that fits perfect. Looks great. The blue ripple parts are all superb with no cracks or splits etc. They are the rare parts. Even the feed is blue. Unique to this pen Only..... The nib is also perfect. Great rare pen....
Made in the 1920s in New York it was then exported to England where it had the 9CT solid gold hallmarked cap ring. Hallmark: F.D.W. = Frank D Waterman. date letter N = 1928. Leopards head = London Assay office. These hallmarks can ONLY be issued in London. From England it was then exported to Canada by Frank Waterman where it received its rare Canada FDW 4 Nib. This was quite a common practice by Waterman as in the 1920s Canada was still under British Empire and import export tax was avoided. So in short it wascheaperfor Waterman to export to England then ship to Canada than export to Canada direct whichincurredhuge import duty. Likewise pens made in Canada at the FDW factory often found there way to England. Most of these Blue Ripple have these Canada FDW nibs. A few were sold in the USA with gold plated ring and REG U>S> nibs fit. The rarest of all have FDW ENGLAND IDEAL nibs and the solid gold ring. So 3 types of nibs can be found on these pens. All number 4 ideal.
The F.D.W. (Frank D. Waterman) Canada Number 4, 14K Nib writes with a fine to medium line at normal pressure. Better flex than the New York 4 nibs. This Canada 4 nib has wonderful medium soft flex that allows for line width variation. Byapplyinga little pressure this medium nib easily writes, Medium line. Add a little more pressure for Broad and Double Broad etc. This nib is as good as they get. Wonderful creative nib that gives your handwriting tons of personality. These nibs are less sharp or paper scratchy than the extra fine examples etc. Beautiful to write with...
Just serviced it works 100% as when new. To fill could not be easier. Simply pull lever down 90 degree and then place nib in ink. Close the lever down flush. Take nib out of ink. Wipe excess. Done. Takes seconds.
This pen is ready to write. Just add ink. Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a quality fountain pen........
