More detailed description about this superb pen.... This Waterman Safety Pen is large for the period at over 5 ich or 13cm capped. When posted and the nib extracted ready to write it measures a whooping 15cm + or 6+ inch. Rare to find these safety pens so long. The pen was made in New York, U.S.A. over 100 years ago.... The pen is made from hard black rubber. The center of the pen reads, PAT'D 1884 - MAY 23 1899. WATERMAN'S - Ideal logo - FOUNTAIN -. PEN N.Y.U.S.A. - & AUG .4.1903. - SAFETY PEN. It also has the number and letter, 12 S, on the bottom. The cap reads, WATERMAN'S - PAT. APR..28.1906. The feed is also stamped with PAT dates, Y 23.99 and 1903. The overall condition of the pen is great considering its age. Still jet black zero color fade. Has a few light signs of use as one would expect. No cracks or splits etc... The 2 gold rings or bands have no gold hallmarks I can find and so I am unsure if solid or plated. The nib was made in England. Either fitted when imported 100 years ago or as a replacement at some stage in its life. The Nib writes with a fluid smooth medium to fine flex line. These Safety Pens are an unusual variation on the Eye Dropper fill pens. They have a retracting nib. Twist the end of the pen or place the cap on the end and turn. The nib twists in and out. Very clever system. All inner workings are present and the pen retracts and extends the nib as it should. Rare. All parts original. Will only need new seals if to be used daily. I only ever nib dipped this chap.(Seals are easy to buy on if you wanted. Nice little project that can be done yourself for 10usd.) I do not have any in stock is the only reason I never fit. Overall this is a great condition fully functioning rare Waterman. Perfect as a gift or add to your collection.
