Some more information about this Waterman pen................ This Rare Waterman is model 42 1/2 V S. Vest Safety pen. It was made in New York in 1910-20s. It was then shipped to England by F.D. Waterman. Once in England it was shipped again to France which is where it was given its solid silver makeover. Finally sold to the French market. Quite a journey... Under the silver jacket is a standard Hard Rubber Ripple or red and black mottles wood grain standard safety pen. These pens have aretractablenib hence SAFETY pen. To activate the nib you put the cap on tail and turn until nib comes out ready to write. Repeat in reverse to retract the nib again when finished. Clever design. This pen is fully working still even its seals seem intact so it is ready to fill. I have no idea how old the gasket seals are so can not guarantee. However they are for sale on and are simple to fit yourself should you need to. The pen has been used and so is not mint. It has a few small dents and 4 French Silver hallmarks which look like dents but are not. Considering its age it is still a very handsome pen in great vintage condition with only the usual signs of wearconsummateto its age. The nib is a 14K New York number 2. It writes with a fluid medium line and has great flex. The flex allows for line width variation.Byapplyinga little pressure this medium nib easily writes, Medium Broad line. Add a little more pressure for Broad and more for Double Broad etc. Wonderful creative nib that gives your handwriting tons of personality. These nibs are less sharp or paper scratchy than the extra fine examples or the cursive fine. These nibs tines end in a twist so they write on a flat curve edge rather than sharp point. This makes for a smooth and fluid line. Very User friendly nib. This pen is an eye dropper fill.Which means you simply unscrew the tail end until nib is fully retracted then ink fill direct into the nib section using an eye dropper or pipette. Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a rare vintage Safety pen...
