Some more information about this fantastic Waterman 412 1/2......
This wonderful pen was made in New York USA in 1905-10. It is solid 925 Sterling Silver Filigree overlay on Black Hard Rubber. The Cap, Body and Clip are all stamped Sterling. Nice to find an early Cap Clip in solid silver. Normally silver plate or Nickel plate that never last. This solid silver example is fantastic all its PAT. September 26th 1905 dates and IDEAL baseball logo stamps are crisp and sharp like new.
The filigree work on the cap and body is first class. Hand cut and engraved with an organic Art Nouveau floral design. Simply beautiful. Rare to find one so clean and crisp. All the silver work is superb with no repairs, splits or deep scratches, dents or bite marks etc.. Rare to find one so clean and all original. Even its Black Hard Rubber base is still Jet Black with superb sheen and glow. Rare as with silver polish etc the Rubber often oxidizes and turns brown. Even with prolonged use these BHR pens turn brown. So to find one still black is rocking horse manure rare : )
The pen has perfect length, weight and balance once posted (Cap on Tail) as it was designed to be used. Based on the Number 12 1/2 BCHR Waterman this 412 1/2 is the slime line (= 1/2) 12 with silver jacket = 4. (4-12 1/2.) Same size 2 Nib as the 12 and 52 etc.
As beautiful as this pen undoubtedly is the star of the piece is its Nib. 14K New York Number 2. Writes with a fluid Fine to Medium Fine line andalso has great flex. The flex allows for line width variation byapplyingvarying levels of pressure on the down stroke. Easily writes from fine to medium and all the way to double broad. Very creative line full of personality.
The pen is an early Eye Dropper orPipettefill system. You fill ink directly into the barrel. Takes seconds and is a lot less messy than you might think. I will include a pipette to get you started. The barrel holds plenty of ink and so needs filling only after lengthy use. This pen has been fully serviced and tested. It all works 100% as when new. Very rare.
Perfect as a gift or treat yourself to a quality antique pen that writes as well today as it did when new. This is a rare functional collectible that can be used and enjoyed daily...
