Hoyt was an American Baptist clergyman, founder of the Baptist Chapel Car Ministry whch followed the railroads west from the 1890s to the early 20th century; author of Walks and Talks with Charles Haddon Spurgeon.ALS. 1p with integral leaf, 4.5" x 7", Philadelphia, July 29, 1898. To Col. George Arrowsmith's biographer John S. Applegate regarding his memoir of the Union officer morally wounded at Gettysburg. In part, "I am just back from a tour of Christian Endeavour (?) on the Pacific Slope..." Hoyt comments on a mutual friend who would like to have a copy of Applegate's biography of Arrowsmith and provides his friend's address. He closes, "I have the pleasantest memories of my visit with you..."
