Wedgwood Tea Poy Or Caddy 18th C. Transfer Or Bat Printed For Sale
Wedgwood Tea Poy or Caddy 18th C.
Transfer or Bat Printed
For sale a Wedgwood tea caddy probably decorated by Sadler and Green either transfer printed or bat printed in black. The image on one side shows a milkmaid tending cattle while a charming suitor looks on. On the other side a woman in a hat chasing the cattle across a river.
See Peter Williams "Wedgwood A Collector's Guide" (1992) p. 101 where there is a picture of a "selection of Liverpool overglaze printing on Wedgwood Queen's ware, c1770-80". The lower right shows a similar tea caddy and the coffee pot shows a transfer print similar to the one on sale.
Creamware body slip-cast in a two-part mold. The shape is simple but elegant.
Marked with an impressed WEDGWOOD near the edge of the bottom. (Difficult to image.)
Measurement: 41/4inches tall and a little over 3inches across the widest part of the base.
Condition: two tiny nips at the rim and one at the edge of the shoulder. There is some wear on the base and an a dark piece of grit near the rim of the base. No lid.
TERMS: Winning buyer pays $8.80 shipping and handling. Idaho purchaser agrees by offerding to pay 6% sales tax or provide me with signed resale card. I usually ship within two days of payment and use U.S.P.S. Note: suggests you send your payment to the seller within 3 days.
