Wilcox Du Barry Pattern, Tipping Teapot With Warmer, Elegant Chased Silver Plate:
Wilcox Du Barry Tipping Teapot
Wilcox Du Barry Tipping Teapot
This gorgeous teapot on stand was made by Wilcox Silver Co./International Silver of Meriden Connecticut. This elegant piece dates from the 1960’s and is Du Barry pattern, item number 7060. This pattern is sometimes found in other variations without the chased floral decoration on the sides and lid. This teapot is a “tipper”style, as the pot can be poured without lifting it off of the base simply by tipping it forward on two of the side pegs. This pot holds 7 cups of liquid and was never monogrammed. The teapot with the base stands 13 ¼” (33.7 cm) tall. The teapot measured alone without its base stands 10 ¼” (26.2 cm) tall. The teapot is marked, but there are no markings on the base or the burner.
This wonderful tipping teapot is in very good condition, with a brilliant shine and no areas of wear to its silver layer. The large top handle sits a bit crooked, as does the finial. The lid has a slight gap when in the closed position and does not quite rest on the pot's inner rim. There are a couple of insignificant extremely tiny dings near the lower spout, but they are hard to see. There is a scratch on the lower side of the teapot, just above the foot, but it is located where it doesn’t show. The top of the handle has a few tiny gouges and scratches. The hinge on the teapot’s lid is firmly attached and swings smoothly, but it does have some “play” in it (wobble). We found no flaws on the ornate base section of this set. The burner is also in great shape and it fits well in the base, but it may have been replaced at one time, it is unmarked.
