We are pleased to offer this monumental c1850 William Forbes silver tea tray.

Selling our 40 year collection of 18th and 19th century American silver.

Over 400 examples.

A near identical tray in the Museum of the City of New York, Number 169.

Oval form.

French Empire inspired streaming leaf in beaded rim.

Center with period engraved armorial, a standing hawk atop shield, banner and motto.

Twin leaf and bead handles rising from feathered leaf terminal.

Tray 33 inches across handles 21 1/2 across & 170 standard ounces.

Hallmarked Ball Tompkins & Black Successors to Marquand & Co. & stamped twice WF.

In excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina.

The armorial and streaming leaf border retain their crisp detail.

Stands perfectly even on shelf. Mild wear.
