' Pogany illustrated or decorated every part of every page' IBIS Aspects of Illustration Journal No.1

The book is complete and no pages are missing. First edition dated 1910 and beautifully illustrated throughout. As the book has been protected by the dust jacket the giltdecoration on front board and spine, whilst veryslightlydulled is still bright and the colours generally are bright. Front board has slight wear along edges and there is asmall dent on top and opposite backedge. There is asmall dent on side edge (which has caused decorated end paper to have a slight crinkle on inside board) and two smalldents on lower edge. Book corners are bumped ( the lower corners are heavily bumped) as is the spine at both ends. Thedecorated end papers front and back are in goodcondition. Two small wear holes, near stitching by title page. Light foxing, on end papers up to first page of text. Cracked hinge near the first page of text making frontboardvery slightly loose and some webbing is exposed, but stillcompletelyattached and there is some cracking near the first plate. The first 44 pages have a small line mark on top edge of page. The first70 pages have a slight kink on the pagecorners -not creased as such but musthave beenbent slightly by a reader. Six pages at the beginning of the book are slightly splayed at the lower end after the last stitchnear gutter. Foxing stain mark on one page of text. Cracking on spine twice near two plates about 40 pages in. Light foxingtowards end of book mainly confined to endpapers. Light cracking of back board by last page of text, but binding at back firm. Tiny spot mark on back boardotherwise outer back board is in good condition. Side profile photo's show that front board does not lie completely flat or flush with rest of book. The dark brown dust jacket is decorated in gilt which is now faint, but shows a sailing shipon the front and an albatross on theback. It is in one piece but is worn along all edges with tears, although no tear is more than 5cm long. The spine title on the dust jacketisvery faint, noted that missing a section along top of spine which is about 1.5cm at widest depth, from top of dustjacket.A beautifully illustrated, collectable book and a scarce first edition. I have tried to capture any faults in the scans or photo's above but can provide any other photo's on request.
