you walk throughan oldforest, just as the night is coming. You hear
footsteps behind you, or leaves rustling in the forest beside
you.Asevery hair on the back of your neck stands up, you turn to look.
You spy a face in a tree watching back atyou; as you look closer,
itvanishes into a twisted branch, or an old knot. It is in this place
that theWood Spirit lives. It is said that if you are good, theWood
Spirits will watch over you and protect you on your journey through the
knots are sometimes known as fat wood, because of their great amount of
resin. Resin or fat, whichever it may be is wherethe tree has stored
its Spirit.When a tree decays, these areas of concentration, these
pockets of energy remain intact,able to lie in the groundfor
centuries. Though a great log may crumble into dust and new trees grown
in the resultant humus, the knots remain long after.
name is Eric Peterson. These pine knots are from the Sacramento mountains in southern New Mexico. These carvings are made using primarily rotary
tools and small knives. Each carving is signed and dated.
