Working Pair Of Block And Tackle Pulleys - Old Farm / Barn Or Maritime Tools For Sale
Working Pair of BLOCK and TACKLE PULLEYS - Old Farm / Barn or Maritime Tools: Up for sale is another fantastic working pair of Antique / Vintage Block and Tackle Pulleys that I will have had listed in the past couple of weeks. This set of pulleys is in very good condition (if not excellent condition) given their age. The pictures that I have taken of this set seem to make them appear to be larger than they really are so please make sure to look at the photograph of the pulleys next to the ruler and view the details of the dimensions below. Both pulleys have matching small metal identification plate centered on one side of the blocks bearing the recognizable STAR logo. Although the name company's name is not embossed on the identification plate as well, it is clear that both of these pulleys were made by the one time industry leader in manufacturing pulleys (and other industrial tools), the BOSTON & LOCKPORT BLOCK CO. This set of pulleys were found stored away in an old barn recently while I was out on one of my 'picking adventures' (the same Massachuesetts barn which my other pulleys that I had listed - ending or ended on 02/17/13). Because these pulleys were kept inside of the barn and out of the elements, they have remained in very good condition. I have found pulleys in the past that look to be in fantastic shape on the exterior but after removing the sheaves (wheels) I have found very corroded or damaged parts within. This is NOT the case with this set of pulleys and I always will photograph each component of the pulleys so that you know the exact condition of every part and piece. After removing the wheels from these block and tackles, I found a very light rust on the wheels which I cleaned away. The wheels are now free of any rust and they spin freely, cleanly and smoothly. There is a slight discoloration of the wheels due to their age but they are not corroded or damaged and they could be buffed out if you wanted to make them perfect once again. I've also cleaned the wood on these pulleys and the wood is in excellent condition. The wood is not dried out or brittle and there are no major cracks or other damage on the housing groups. On the double sheave pulley you will find a slight groove in the wood where a rope had rubbed across the area. This groove is not deep or compromising to the structural integrity of pulley and I find it to be a wonderful additional characteristic! The winning buyer will receive these pulleys that are free of dust, grease, dirt, oil or grime - a condition in which they are ready to be used, displayed or restored. And though I've cleaned these pulleys, I have not restored them as you will sometimes find with other pulleys (I have not sanded down the wood or metal and have not added any stain, lacquer or paint to the pulleys) therefore you will find some very light surface rust in a couple of areas (extremely light..) and areas of various coloration in the wood (which would all even out to the same color if they were lightly sanded). These pulleys are overall in excellent, original condition and because their construction is solid and they are in excellent working condition, these Boston & Lockport Block Co. pulleys are ready to be put to use once again around the garage or barn OR because of their phenomenal look & appeal and their smaller size, they could also be used as display items which would add a magnificent rustic touch in or around any home. **RECOMMENDATION: Although these
pulleys are fantastic in their current condition, they would only
benefit from a light application of some natural beeswax which would
protect the
wood and really bring out the natural grains - A quick 5
