Brand new, but I bought this at a Wusthof warehouse sale. They put a mark the size of a pinhead on the blade, to show that it was not sold at full retain,so it cant be returned to a retail store for a refund of the full retail price.You have to look for it, you would not normally see it.Also the knife has some minor rust on it. I asked at Wusthof and they said this metal is supposed to rust and not to remove it. I am not a knife expert, but they seems pretty sure.
