Egon Delica

On May 10th 1940, then Leutnant, Egon Delica participated in the successful glider borne assault on the fortress of Eban Emael in Belgium as second in command of, Sturmgruppe Granit, (Storm/Assault Group Granite), which was a component of Fallschirm Jäger Sturmabteilung Koch, (Paratroop Storm/Assault Unit Koch). As a result of this daring assault, Delica was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross on May 12th 1940 and was promoted to the rank of Hauptmann on May 16 1940. Delica later participated in the air assault on Crete and was awarded the \"Kreta\", cufftitle and the German Cross in Gold as a result. Delica was captured by the British on February 12th 1945 and was released on August 27th 1947.

He served in the Bundeswehr from May 1st 1956 eventually being promoted to the rank of Oberleutnant before his retirement on March 31st 1971.

Egon Delica died 26 April 1999 aged 84
