Zuni Isabelle & Chauncy Simplicio Turquoise Horse Head Mosaic Inlay Ring Sz 9.5:
I'm offering for your consideration a wonderful ring made by Chauncy and Isabelle Simplicio. This is a great favorite of mine; I love to wear it so much. It's a best example. Chauncy was the brother of Dan Simplico and worked in many ways that are similar to the way Dan Simplicio worked. There is a hand cut and carved nugget of wonderful turquoise in the ring. I thunk it's Morenci mine turquoise with quartz inclusions. It's beautiful. The central piece is a horse head inlaid into jet with sterling silver bridle. This horse is great. He has a smile sometimes. He's "finished" in that he has an eye, a nose, ears… not all the horses are complete. He's a great horse. There are two stamped raindrops, really lovely ones and the band is heavy and broadens near the face, providing great stability. The jet and the turquoise are both set in a serrated bezel setting. The entire face is large but sits very comfortably on the finger. The entire ring face is 1-3/8" long and 1" wide. The ring size is 9.5 on the ring sizer. The gorgeous turquoise is about 5/8" long and 1/4" wide. The jet oval into which the horse is inlaid measures 1" wide and 11/16" high. The piece is unsigned and not marked for silver content. That is typical of those times. It's an older piece, probably dating to at least the 1980s or earlier. It tests as sterling silver. The piece is recognizably the work of Chauncy and Isabelle Simplicio. I guarantee the attribution; it is unquestionable and has been well documented. They are renowned artists and appear in the books, the galleries and the museums.
This is one of the best ones I've seen. I have collected them; I love them. It's a museum quality example, very fine and suitable for your daily use and for the best of collections. It's fabulous!

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.
