I have gathered themover the last 2 years from deceased estate sales all around thecountry. Most of the American figural napkin rings were madec1860-1899, and I believe a lot of them found there way to Australia inthe gold-rush period in Australia in the 1870/1890\'s.Ihavelisted them nowas they have accumulated over thelast 2 years while I have been engaged in a big supreme court action. This is a lovely antique English figural napkin ring whichhas a cherubcarrying the napkin holder above his head. The base is very ornate andtake the form od a shell liek structure. Thre cherub has a drapehanging behind him. The napkin holder is plain and nice and round. theEnglish seemed to prefer to leave the \'ring\' quite plain whereasthe Americans liked to engrave and decorate them. This figural napkin ring is marked by Garrard & Co. Ltd, RegentStreet, London. The company started in 1909 and this would have beenmade about then as silverplate figural napkin rings became less popularshortly after 1900 or so. I have attached below a blurb from one ofthose silver hallmark site. Founder of the firmwas John Wickes in 1722. In1802 Robert Garrard (senior) took the control of the firm active inPanton Street, Haymarket, London. In 1818 he was succeed by his threeeldest sons, Robert Garrard Jr, James Garrard and Sebastian Garrardtrading as R, J & S. Garrard. The firm became R. & S. Garrard in 1835, R. & S. Garrard &Co in 1843 and Garrard & Co Ltd in 1909.The dimensions of the napkin ring are approximately 5 inchesor 13 cms high.

This figural toothpick holder isin excellent condition. There is no silverplate loss, no damage, no pitting, nobreaks, no cracks, no missing bits, and no repairs. It has a light tarnish and should polish up really well.
