C18 Chatelaine Equipage Etui Mandolin Violin Music Thimble Case Sewing 1750s:
This is for afabulous original 18th centurygilded chatelaine equipage in superb condition. It dates to the mid 1700s and is very ornate. The clip is embossed with a lady playing the mandolin with a violin, drums, trumpets and horns oneither side. There are two smiling faces at the base which look like theatre masks and a similar mask above the lady. The clip has four rows of chains which hold two appendages and a further central clip. Each appendage hasa lidded box which opens with the aid of the button on the front and these are matching in design. They would have held a thimble and other sewing bits I guess. The central clip is hinged and has a screw that when unscrewed opens the link to enable you to suspend an etui from it.It is a fabulous piece that displays beautifully and is totally original.
