A really nice quality 88 gilt silver and cloisonne enamel Imperial Russian spoon in its own little coffin - violin shaped wooden box.

So the box first.... in superb condition overall.. two brass hinges and a brass push button catch... push it to see the round bowl spoon sat on a mauve velvet pad... see also the cream silk satin underside of the lid.. the first thing you see here is the IMPERIAL WARRANT double headed Eagle trade mark ...with wording...around it ... this says something like...Pridvornni fabrikant Sazikov ....... the word Pridvorni means COURT SUPPLIER ... if you google this maker Sazikov you will find he was PAVEL SAZIKOV first in Moscow 1793 - 1830 ...his son IGNATII SAZIKOV ... 1796 - 1868 took over the firm and opened a shop in St Petersburg in 1842 ...where he became COURT SUPPLIER then with the DOUBLE EAGLE trade mark on his boxes in 1846 ....this spoon dates to that period..and made by Ignatii Sazikov.

Now to the spoon... you will see it is not used.. the gilding is all good.. hallmarked with various markings on the underside of the handle..88 can easy be seen... two intials before it.. and some device after it......and the beautiful coloured enamel on the back of the circular bowl.

The spoon is 12cm long.. and the box is 14.5cm long x just over 4cm wide x 2.5cm deep.....the spoon is not very heavy weighing at 29.8grams.

Remember too this is 88 silver... not the usual 84... you do not often see 88 silver items.

I would say the spoon has been in a cabinet or on display with the box lid open as the mauve velvet is faded.. and quite bare.. other than that it is in wonderful condition... and a RARITY of this fabulous maker who was a supplier to the Russian Imperial Court and a rival of Faberge. .
