C1860s A. Whitney Parlor Guitar Project Civil War Fitchburg Mass Usa Antique For Sale
This is very old Parlor Guitar made by the Andrew Whitney Piano-Forte Shop in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He operated a Musical Instrument Store in this town from about 1853 into the late 1870s, so this is quite possibly from the Civil War period (could explain the wear and the desire to keep patching it up!) This measures36 1/8in. length overall with the back measuring a smidge over 17 3/8in. by about 3 1/4 in. thick--it is9 and 12in. at the bouts.
This has considerable wear: a number of fascinating repair patches to the sides, one of which has split a number of times/filler in a lot of the purling/a split and separation beginning to the back/some split to one side of the head/a patch of bad surface to the ebony fretboard.week we post a number of interesting items that have been purchased from Oregon Estate Sales-shipping can be recalculated and combined with multiple purchases-please let me do the calculating for combined shipments before paying.
