C1898 Label Under Glass Pocket Flask Spanish American War / Admiral Dewey For Sale

The Canteen shaped flask features an albumen photo under glass of Admiral George Dewey with text below the portrait that reads "Remember The Maine". Also under the same glass cover there is a small label with text that reads "Compliments of the Season / Garmon House / Bellefonte, PA.". The Garmon House was a rooming House and Saloon in the late 19th century. In 1887 the Garmon Opera House was opened next door to the Garmon House as a Vaudeville and Theatrical Theater.

The back side of the Flask features impressed letters that read "U.S." (as one would find on a United States Army Regulation Canteen of the period) as well as raised text along the bottom edge that reads "Patent Applied For". As stated above the Flask retains its original, pewter screw cap which has its original cork liner intact.

This outstanding, ca1898 , Spanish American War / Admiral George Dewey, Label Under Glass Canteen shaped Pocket Flask is in very good condition. The Flask is sound and intact with no cracks, chips, breaks, repairs or damage of any kind. The glass is crystal clear with no clouding or surface abrasions. The Photograph of Dewey has a small dark spot on his forehead but is otherwise very well preserved exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. There is some unevenness in the color of the pink colored paint that surrounds the portrait as can be seen in the scans below.
