C1898 Spanish American War / Great White Fleet Uss Maine Large Charger/ Platter:
Rare and very attractive, ca1898, Spanish American War Era Transferware China Platter / Charger featuring images of 4 United States Navy Warships from the "Great White Fleet" along with a portrait of Admiral George Dewey - The Hero of Manila Bay.
This wonderful. large size Souvenir / Commemorative Charger measure approx. 13" in diameter and features a fantastic image of the USS Battleship Maine at the center surrounded by a portrait of Admiral Dewey at the top, a view of the armored cruiser USS New York at the bottom, a view of the Battleship USS Indiana at the left and a view of the gunboat USS Nashville at the right. The images of the ships and of Admiral Dewey are executed using a soft, sepia tone transfer while the edges of the Charger and the water beneath the ships feature a wonderful pastel blue decoration. This Plate is marked on the back by the manufacturer - The Sebring Pottery Company of East Liverpool, Ohio.
The surface of the Charger is beautifully molded with foliate and flourish decorations that form scalloped "frames" around each of the images as well as the Platter's rim. The large size and the high quality decoration make this wonderful Charger an impressive and very attractive display piece - one of the nicest Spanish American War China pieces we have ever encountered!!
This rare and very attractive, Spanish American War Souvenir / Commemorative Transferware Plate is in good to very good condition. The surface is clean and crisp with no staining, foxing, discoloration or wear to the decoration. There is an unobtrusive pattern of crazing to the glaze as is typical of the ironstone ground used by Sebring but the surface is sound and stable. There are 2 small chips on the back side of the rim of the Charger as can be seen in the scans below but there are no other cracks, chips damage or repairs.
A rare and very beautiful, ca1898, Spanish American War Era Transferware China Platter / Charger featuring images of 4 United States Navy Warships from the "Great White Fleet" along with a portrait of Admiral George Dewey and a fantastic addition to any collector!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
