Description:

An very finely carved Chinese boxwood Ruyi ornamentnaturalistically carved in relief,the main gnarledstalk culminating in a largelingzhifungus curling over to form the head of the sceptre. The central shaft features three bats attached to further lingzhi fungi, and the handle curls round with the natural f9orm of the wood.

The wood is heavy and tightly grained and thought to be boxwood. It is richly patinated with a deep caramel colour. The reverse side bears three carved curled marks, perhaps a makers mark.

The lingzhi fungus is a Daoist symbol which represents longevity and immortality.

Condition:

In very good condition, with only a very fine restored crack to the wood sceptre end. Please see the images provided which complementthis description.
