C1910 Dixie Kid Tobacco Tin Lithograph Lunchbox / Lunch Pail Tin Black Americana For Sale
Rare, ca1910, Black Americana subject, “Dixie Kid Cut Plug” Smoking and Chewing Tobacco Lunch Pail Advertising Tin. This fantastic, original Tobacco Tin measures approx. 7 1/2" x 5" x 4" tall and features a wire, bale handle on the lid. The lithography on the front and back panel of the Tin features an African American baby seated on a large, white pillow like sack. Text below the baby reads "He Was Bred in Old Kentucky" (like Dixie Kid Tobacco we surmise).
Dixie Kid Cut Plug was manufactured by the Nall & Williams Tobacco Company of Louisville, Kentucky. The Container retains its original, hinged Lunchbox style lid. This charming, Black Americana subject Tobacco Tin is very attractive but is not signed by the lithographer / maker.
This rare and very attractive, Black Americana, Tobacco Lunch Pail Advertising Tin is in very good condition - the Tin itself is sound and intact with no rust through or major damage. The lithography on the front, back and side panels is very well preserved with some light wear and small scratches. The lithography on the lid has scattered, small spots of surface loss with light surface oxidation to the exposed spots and surface wear to the gilt border where there is also light surface oxidation. and surface oxidation along the edges as well as some surface loss in the form of 2 diagonal lines (see the scans below). The Lunch Pail retains its original latch and closure at the top of the front panel and the center front of the lid. This rare and quite wonderful Tobacco Tin does display nicely as can be seen in the scans below.
A very rare and very attractive, early 20th century, Black Americana Subject, Illustrated Dixie Kid Cut Plug Tobacco Lunchpail Tin and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!
