C1920s Red Mesa Anthropomorphic Navajo Rug Blanket Churro Native American Indian For Sale
Offered here is a blanket weight circa 1920s,
uncommon Navaho weaving that measures 5 feet long by 3 foot 5 inches wide or
60” x 41”. It is attributed to the Red
Mesa weaving area and is in very good to excellent condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and nicely handspun long
staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. Here is an exciting anthropomorphic mirror
image weaving. The image is very stylized
in stick form with feathers attached all along each side. The bold red border filled with outlined
Chinle type stars makes a great frame to focus the viewers attention on the
mirror image. Outstanding weaving here
for your consideration.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile out
of a very high end Arizona collection just to offer you here on . It has a fine, blanket weight weft count
averaging 30 per inch and a fine warp count of 10 per inch. The selvage cords are 100% complete and in
excellent condition. Warp selvages are
2-spiral cords and weft selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners are all four tight, original and
in excellent condition. The tassels are all four in excellent condition. It comes from a
non-smoking home and it is pretty clean but there are about a half
dozen faint spots or stains measuring ¼” to ¾” in the white.
Both sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old
American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural grayish brown to brownish grey, camel tan,
dark chocolate brown, very light tan & ivory white along with aniline
salmon-turkey red, yellow, over-dyed black, peach and deep purplish blue. Complete with lazy lines, this example of
Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in
your private rug & blanket collection.
