Ca 1900 Johannesburg California (randsburg) Mojave Desert R10 "jh Burdick" Token:
FOR SALE, a VERY RARE, UNLISTED IN FIRST KAPPEN BOOK, SHOWS R-10 IN SUPPLEMENT BOOK, (TOUGH TO FIND OLD TOKENS FROM THIS MOJAVE DESERT RAND MINING DISTRICT TOWN)old "good for" trade token once as "GOOD FOR 12 1/2C DRINK OR CIGAR" used at a business which was called "J. H. BURDICK (RAN SALOON)"business once located in old historic desert MINING town JOHANNESBURG, CALIFORNIA
THIS IS A RARE ICONIC MOJAVE DESERT TOWN, AND THIS IS A GREAT PC OF "JO-BURG" HISTORY.....AND IT IS NOTED THAT THIS TOKEN IS CONSIDERED X-RARE...UNLISTED IN ORIGINAL KAPPEN CATALOG...AND IN THE SUPPLEMENT BOOK IT SHOWS R-10 AND AUTHOR COMMENTS "ONLY KNOWN SPEC. HAS NAIL HOLE CTR" ...SO THIS ONE IS WAY NICER THAN THE ONE REPORTED IN THE CATALOG
THIS COMES OUT OF A LIFETIME COLLECTION OF "RAND MINING DISTRICT" REGION DESERT TOKENS, AND OVERALL IT DISPLAYS NICELY.......WAS FOUND AT THE SITE MANY YEARS AGO
It is about IMPOSSIBLE to find anything today from "JOHANNESBURG" California. This was a nearby mining camp starting around 1897 about a mile away from historic Randsburg California, in mojave desert region of Eastern Kern County. The site of Jo-burg is located on old 395 near the towns of Red Mountain and Atolia, and Randsburg California ...and not far from Searles Lake, Panamint valley and entrance of Death Valley National Monument
If you look in the original California token book (issued 1976, Kappen)there are 2 listings from Jo-burg...this was completely unlisted in first California book, but did get cataloged in supplement as 2K3, but again...one listed had a nail hole through the middle, so this is much nicer than the one in book...ALSO NOTE..THAT THIS WAS USED IN SALOON RUN BY BURDICK.
Token is aluminum, scalloped, about 29mm in size, and has a few minor pits, but displays very well. FIRST TIME ON "BUY IT NOW", OF COURSE...ONLY ONE I HAVE...THIS IS EXTREMELY RARE.
Rare old R-10 good for token once used at BURDICK'S OLD SALOON in historic highway 395 Mojave desert town of JOHANNESBURG, CALIFORNIA.......tough town!!!!!!
