Ca. 400 Years Old: A Exceedingly Rare Cookbook Manuscript Simply Amazing For Sale
ca. 400 YEARS OLD: A exceedingly rare Cookbook Manuscript!!!!! ca. 120 medieval recipes-most likely from a Noble Household!A very beautiful and old manuscript, here now the details: For sale now a extremely rare (because of the high age) handwritten Cookbook from the very early 1600's, written in nice cursive German script. (the origin could be Switzerland)The cookbook contains over 120 medieval recipes on 56 handwritten pages (by two hands), and started with:-different recipes with eggs...(e.g. scrambled eggs, Omelette, filled eggs, busted eggs, hard-bitten eggs etc....)-recipes for different fishes (e.g. for e.g. roasted eel, roasted carp, boiled carp)-soups (e.g. milk-soup for sick childrens, a soup "very useful fo your health" made with cabbage and very interesting spicery, pigeon -soup)- plenty of meat recipes(like roasted capon, roasted veal, roasted calf's liver, roasted goose, fried sausage, roasted rabbit, roasted chicken, recipes for delicious birds, roasted duck, roasted beef, confected veal (cold dish), different kind of sausages, pheasant, filled breast of veal, calf's head, veal shank, venison, roasted lamb, boiled veal...-pastry or pasty (e.g. with Rabbits, mushrooms, bird pasty, ...)-different kind of bakery products, cakes and pastries (e.g. pancake, rose-cake, fullfilled Bread, cooked apple, filled pears, Nidle-Cake made with yeast dough and cream and diff. fruits, and also bacon.(sounds very interesting!!!), chocolate candy, Almond-mash, pudding, even donuts...) -different kind of purée (like apple, pear, almond...) and much all I could read in German, but there are much more I had difficulties to identify some recipes, because of the use of very old- for me foreign german words...Especially the large number of meat recipes shows obviously a wealthy household with a very well-equipped pantry. I suppose the book comes from a noble houshold, also because it was highly unusual to make handwritings of cooking-recipes in that early time, because most of the people were illiterate!!!Calligraphy is clearly early 1600's, no any doubt!!!Measurement: ca. 22,4 x 17,8 cmCondition: souftbound, fore-edges often chipped (not affecting the text), here and there minor The paper is very thick and handmade. The water-mark shows a huge coat of arms with a crown on and left and right with wings of a eagle! The manuscript is very good readable and well for a 400 years old cookbook! Now its your turn. I described this beautiful manuscript as best as I can.I wish you all the best for this unique sale.
