Ca1900 Churro Saddle Blanket Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho Nr For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1900 dandy old Navaho
weaving that was woven wider than long like the old classic shoulder
blankets. It measures 2 feet 2 inches
long by 3 foot 1 inch wide or 26” x 37”.
It is attributed to the Lukachukai weaving area and is in excellent
condition. It was handwoven by an
advanced weaver on a primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded
and nicely handspun silky old long staple Churro and Churro cross sheep wool,
both weft & warp. Here is 100+ year
old single saddle blanket that has a quadruple ribbon border around a colorful (but simple like the
old first phase chief pieces) striped field.
We think it looks better in person than it came across in the
photos. .
We obtained this nice vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Arizona just to offer you here on . It has a soft, smooth weft count averaging 6
per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch.
The selvage cords are all in original, excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. The tassels are all
four original and in excellent condition.
It pretty clean now & comes from a non-smoking home. There is one very faint area of red bleed
right at the end of one red field stripe.
Both sides are even in pattern color and shown in photos above. Colors are great in this piece of old
American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, ivory white, light camel tan
& dark camel tan along with hand dyed aniline transitional red, light pale
blue, dark purplish brown & burnt orange. Complete with lazy lines, this example of
Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in
your private rug & blanket collection.
