Ca1900 Large Size Gunthermann Tinplate Clockwork Wind-up Locomotive Train Engine For Sale
Very rare and wonderful, ca1900 Large Size, Tinplate Gunthermann Clockwork / Wind-up Toy Railroad Locomotive / Train Engine. This fantastic, turn of the 20th century, Clockwork Toy Train Engine measures 16” long overall by 7” tall and 4" wide. It is made entirely of a medium gauge tin and retains the vast majority of its original black, red and gold surface paint.
The Locomotive Engine features an internal, wind-up mechanism with fixed key and carries the Gunthermann Trade Mark used from 1890 to 1919 (a shield within a circle with the letters - "A S G W").
The S.G. Gunthermann Company of Nuremberg, Germany was founded by Sifried Gunthermann in 1877. The Company began producing tinplate mechanical vehicles in 1898 as well as a number of comic and character wind-ups in the early 1900s. When the founder died in 1890, his widow married Adolph Weigel. Beginning ion 1890 the Toys produced carried a maker's mark in the form of a shield inside circle with the initials "A.S.G.W.". Wiegels initials were removed following his death in 1919.
This wonderful, Gunthermann Clockwork Train Engine displays in very good condition. The tin lithographed surface is well preserved with only light wear and a few small spots of touch-up. The Engine lacks one of the two headlamps and the cap to the smoke stack. The drive shafts are present but detached from the drive wheels and the attachments are in need of repair and/or replacement. The Wind-up / clockwork mechanism is present but is not in working order and is in need of repair. Although the Engine displays very nicely, it is in need of repair and some restoration as described above.
A very rare and impressive, ca1900 Large Size, Tinplate Gunthermann Clockwork / Wind-up Toy Railroad Locomotive / Train Engine and a fantastic addition to any collection!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
