Ca1920s Jb Moore Crystal Churro Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket Navaho For Sale
Offered here is a circa 1915-1925 Navaho weaving
that measures 6 feet long by 3 foot 5 inches wide or 72” x 41”. It is attributed to the J. B. Moore Crystal
Trading Post w5eaving area and is in very good+ condition. It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a
primitive upright loom of all Native handshorn, handcarded and smoothly handspun
old long staple Churro sheep wool, both weft & warp. The design of this weaving comes from Plate
XXIV (24) of J B Moore’s 1911 Catalog (see copy of plate in photos above).
This variation is a pleasing use of the large bold latchhook motifs with
concentric stepped diamonds at the center.
The small diamonds around the border add a good flavor of the Catalog
Plate 25 border. Nice old textile.
We obtained this vintage Native American textile on
a rug hunt in Santa Fe, NM just to offer you here on . It has a smooth, even weft count averaging 20
per inch and a warp count of 6 per inch.
The selvage cords are in original very good to excellent condition. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. One tassel is original
& very good and three restored to excellent. It is pretty clean now & comes from a
non-smoking home. One corner has a touch
of faint to light black bleed and a couple of small 1” to 2” light dirty or
soiled spots. Both sides are even in pattern
color and shown in photos above. Colors
are excellent in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand
carded & hand blended natural grayish brown, ivory white, camel gold &
dark chocolate brown along with hand dyed aniline turkey red and over-dyed
black. Complete with lazy lines, this example
of antique Native Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just
tuck away in your private rug & blanket collection.
