Cir1930 Gorgeous Lukachukai Yei Churro Navajo Rug Native American Indian Blanket For Sale
Offered here is an uncommon circa 1925-1935 Navaho
weaving that measures 5 feet 6 inches long by 3 foot 5 inches wide or 66” x 41”. It is quite interesting that there are no
clearly defined lower legs or moccasins / boots on the dancers in this
weaving. Not sure what the sand colored
bar represents as we have not seen this depiction in other Yei weavings. This piece is attributed to the Lukachukai
weaving area and is in excellent condition.
It was handwoven by an expert weaver on a primitive upright loom of all
Native handshorn, handcarded and beautifully handspun old long staple Churro
and Churro cross sheep wool, both weft & warp. This
is an outstanding old variegated brown field Yeii with 4 very nicely adorned
and colorful lady Yeii impersonators, each in a different color dress.
Each dancer has feathered dance rattle and staff at one hand and a
feathered wand at the other hand. Full
length across the legs of all of the dancers is a camel tan sand bar with 13
two colored arrow feathers hanging down.
The weaver’s attention to detail in this weaving is one to take note
of.
We obtained this vintage
Native American textile out of one of two big collections from Arizona just to
offer you here on . It has a fine,
smooth weft count averaging 30 per inch and a warp count of 7 per inch. The selvage cords are all in excellent
condition with 3” replaced on one side and the rest are all original. Warp selvages are 2-spiral cords and weft
selvages are 2-spiral cords. The corners
are all four tight, original and in excellent condition. One tassel is original
and in very good condition and 3 have been restored to excellent
condition. It is clean now & comes
from a non-smoking home. There is a1/2" x 1/2" reweave on one side near a corner anda couple of places on each end where some broken warps were repaired. Both sides are even in pattern color and
shown in photos above. Colors are
terrific in this piece of old American Indian art and they are: hand carded & hand blended natural
variegated chocolate brown, dark brown to black, brownish grey, ivory white
& camel tan belly wool along with hand dyed aniline orange, yellow, rose
pink, purple, raspberry red and cardinal red.
Complete with lazy lines, this example of Native
Americana is ready to display in your own hacienda or just tuck away in your
private rug & blanket collection.
