Elf Belize British 50 Cents 1978 Frigate Bird For Sale
KM 50, seven year type, issued while Belize was under British control. Belize gained its independence on September 21, 1981. Elizabeth II is the head of state, as the Queen of Belize. Half dollar size copper-nickel coin, with Frigate Birds on the reverse. For the copper-nickel issues of the Franklin Mint, particularly the low mintage issues, it is often very difficult to determine whether a specific coin is Proof or Uncirculated, since the Uncirculated coins are often Prooflike, due to the low usage of the dies. For the 1978 issues, there were only 1,671 Proofs and 2,958 Uncirculated coins struck. The previous owner identified these as Proofs; I believe that they are Uncs. Most of the coins have light bagmarks, which would also indicate that they were not treated as Proof coins.
