Dance-Rock? A natural outgrowth of Eletro-Clash? Labels. Speaking of labels, thanks to Virgin Records for getting on the bandwagon. Remember when hair-bands imploded in the early 90s? All the lesser-knowns like Brittany Fox, Znuff Enuff, Faster Pussycat as well as the well knows Ratt, Motley Crue, Skid Row. Yeah, well, ‘Dear going down the same road, I’d like to introduce you to The Ponys, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, The Bravery, Futureheads, etc.” We all know we’re heading for a crack-up. Well, until then, more of the same. WAS are less than inspiring but a wholly adequate NYC rock band. “Nobody move, Nobody get hurt” and “This scene are dead” are good, non-threatening rock songs. However the energy dissipates into the music of a small-liberal-arts-college-tour-band. There’s no real conceptual difference between this band and what Better than Ezra and The Guffs were in the mid-90s. By the time you hear “Callback,” “Cash Cow,” and “The Great Escape” you know you’ve stumbled into a major label exec’s wet-dream. Ride the wave while you can kids. That said, it’s not a bad purchase—used or as a promo. I mean, there has to be something new every few months to play over the loudspeakers in UrbanOutfitters, right?Read full review
It was to be somewhat rock ish and by new young hip guys. It had a great cover with the 3 cats. The band members are from Brooklyn...I'm a former New Yorker...so how bad could they be. Each song sounds like the last. Guys voice is annoying after a while too. Good but not like bands I'm used to being a fan of. I like XTC and Zappa and King Crimson and other older English bands.
I bought this CD because I was going to see Arctic Monkeys and We Are Scientists were the opening band. Before my purchase, I had only heard one song that got some radio play so I thought I should hear more before seeing them live. I LOVE this CD, they blew me away live and they are one of my new favorite bands!
