I bought several books in this series, because I had read one of them. I liked the way it presented a historical figure with historical information about that person while also showing how that person lived out a certain value all his/her life. There are so many negative influences on our children's lives these days--and so many false heroes--that I wanted to present true heroes that lived their lives by true and noble qualities. All the books have the same format. They each have the main character starting in childhood and each character gets some form of "imaginary friend" that "talks" to them and "tells" them the right path for them. The book then follows the person throughout his/her life history, always pointing out the value that is being emphasized. One of my favorites is the Value of Responsibility, about the first head of the United Nations, a black man by the name of Ralph Bunche. They are long picture books with quite a few words, but not to the point of chapter books. Each page has a color picture that takes up half of the page.Read full review
