The MP57s are confidence inspiring. I have owned or "demoed" every Mizuno iron made since 1979 through the new 2011 models. IMHO MP57s are the best combination of butter soft feel and accuracy in a cavity back club with traditional lofts(not "jacked up" strong lofts like game-improvement clubs). They look like "real golf clubs", not something you would use for plumbing repairs. For me they have a slight tendency to produce a soft draw. I have found them difficult to fade. I have two sets, one with KBS Tour stiff soft- stepped and weighted to D3. The other set has Dynamic Gold R300. Both produce a high, straight, and penetrating trajectory. I had the DGS300s in one set, but switched them out because I could not take advantage of the shaft. Unless you genuinely and consistently carry your 7 iron 155 yards without roll, I would go with the less stiff shafts. If you desire work the ball left and right, I would go with the Mizuno MP32s, which are the easiest to hit Mizuno blades for my money. For reference, I am a 62 year old 7 handicapper with an 80 mph club head speed with a 6 iron.Read full review
I am a life long golfer with about a 7 hdcp today. Bought some custom forged irons about 3 years ago and fell in love with them. So much so, I couldn't think of anything else I would like. Given their reputation as one of the best forged irons on the market today, the fact that they were very close to my specs, and the price, I bid on them and won. They arrived exactly as advertised, and I went straight to the range with mixed results. However, after having them regripped and "tuned" a bit, I returned to the range ans was very pleased. They have a soft and consistent feel with virtually no recoil (if you hit it in the middle of the face). By this I mean they are everything you would like in a club, but they are not for everyone. With the smaller head there is less margin for error as with some of the larger models today. You do not have to be a pro to hit them; however, if you play only once a week, there are a good number of quality clubs available that are more foregiving and more enjoyable to play. In summary, the Mizuno MP 57 irons are not for everyone, but they are as good as advertised - high quality construction, great traditional look, consistent and easily allow you to work the ball either way. Great club for both the purest and the avid golfer. And, an even better club when you get a deal on them from Ebay.Read full review
I really like them (set was 5-PW). I've only had them for about a week or so and played just one round. My previous set was a Spauling Executive set 2-SW that was made in 1977 and I'd played them since I was maybe 15. I'll keep them forever just for the memories. The set I'd used before that was a really old set of Burke's that my Grandpa used. I highly recommend playing on older style clubs when you are younger. I can hit blade or blade-sized clubs without fear. Cavity backs look massive and ridiculous to me at address. The MP-57's are kind of in the middle. Definitely the largest head club I would ever use. The guy I bought them from had them bent 2 degrees upright and I LOVE IT (PW = 45* instead of 47*, etc). Only thing that kind of sucks is that my 52* gap is a bit far away now. We'll see. I've never had a problem getting the ball up in the air and have always used a club lower than a situation might call for (9 instead of PW, etc.) With the 57's I was dropping the PW in from 120 and stopping it on a dime. Ball mark was within 2-3 feet of the ball the five or six times I hit the green. Shot the best 9-holes of my life with a 42 on the back nine. Hopefully I'll get it into the 30's sometime.Read full review
I haven't had as much time to devote to my golf game the last few years, so I finally decided I needed to move away from the mp 32 cut muscle style irons that I had loved so much when I played a lot of golf. I didn't want to lose the great feel from the mizuno forged irons, so I looked at the more foregiving mp 57s. I've only played one round with them, but with my swing speed a little slower than it previously was and not quite as consistent, these irons performed beautifully. It took a few swings to find the perfect rhythm, but once I got it going, they performed better than expected. The feel off the face is amazing and buttery smooth like it was on a well hit mp 32. I didn't have to worry about working the ball too much, so I can't really say how they responded on that front, but they did produce the nice draw that I used to get when I was hitting my mp 32's more consistently.Read full review
I purchased these after hitting the MX23s for a few years and wanting to switch from a game improvement club to a players club. The club heads are smaller on the 57s and I was hesitant at first about my ability to hit them well since they are full cavity backs. However, I found these clubs have made me more aware of my swing and actually encourage me to be more deliberate in my ball striking. My solid hits have gained only about 5-7 yards of distance, but the trajectory is markedly straighter. While not as forgiving as the 23's, these are still more so than other full cavity-backs I have hit and obviously more so than blades. Mis-hits are still fairly straight (within 10-15 yards left or right), but definitely lack the distance you would expect. I have only had these to the range twice and the course once, due to inclement weather. My first round out with these, after a 10 month lay-off from golf, produced a score in the low 90's. This being within my normal-to-slightly-high range with the 23s, I am certain the feel and responsiveness of these irons will help me to continue to fine-tune my game over the course of this season and beyond. I would recommend these to a fairly consistent ball-striker who has the desire to improve their game.Read full review
