This is a wonderful, typical Hallmark production. If you are looking for a perfectly 100% historical telling of this story you may be a little disappointed. But this movie, like most Hallmark movies are written for storytelling purposes. Therefore, you can get away with the "gist" of the story and the "heart" of the story speaks volumes. It is a very heart-warming story and a good Christmas-time watch. The downside....Jason Alexander. He did a very good job in this production but if you are a Seinfeld fan (which I am) you can't get out of your mind that you are watching George Costanza. Several times I kept on expecting George to somehow mess things up....but don't worry, George is safely in Seinfeld's universe and Jason remains in the "Man Who Saved Christmas"
I bought the movie because I missed part of it on TV, and what I saw I really enjoyed. It's a great family movie about A.C. Gilbert who invented the Erector Set & many other toys. It shows the family's patriotism toward the U.S.during World War I. When pressured by the U.S. Congress, the Gilbert family turned their successful toy factory into a munitions plant and by doing this joined a drive by congress to do away with Christmas and toys. He and his family eventually convinced congress that both toys and munitions could be manufactured at the same time. He felt it was important for the children to have the joy put back into Christmas. It also shows that the process of playing helps children to use their imagination to learn and to dream. This was a very forwarding-thinking family business where parents brought their children to work with them; and, during the time toys were being manufactured, the company provided day-care. With so much garbage being put out as entertaininment, this movie was quite refreshing and an excellent Christmas movie. There's nothing in it that you would be embarrassed to watch with your children. I would give it a 10 out of a possible 10!Read full review
Very entertaining with a great cast of actors, depicting Afred Gilbert confronted by the US Government strongly requesting his Erector toy factories be converted to produce war armaments during the WW 1. As added interest, the movie shows Gilbert developing his Erector toys, Some toys featured in the movie were taken from later years, but it does not distract from the story.

I really don't understand why this movie gets no air play. At least I've never seen it advertised any where. So well done and a great movie! So much better than those sappy non realistic romantic comedies they pass off for Christmas movies! I discovered this gem totally by accident. I was looking around at a local store that sells used DVD's, CD's and vinyl records. I purchased it for $1. It didn't play all the way through. Such are the chances when purchasing used. At any rate after having watching what I was able, I had to have a new copy. I purchased a copy and will watch it every year at Christmas time. Merry Christmas! (NOT generic happy holidays!)
