I had been mire familiar with Julia Child through her later PBS cooking programs & enjoyed watching them immensely. Since Julia is always watchable, I thought I'd enjoy these programs both for the entertainment value, as well as my love of learning new culinary things. These dvd's fit the bill exactly. Fun & educational. I am completely satisfied with this purchase and feel I got an exceptional price. Looking forward to a few open hours to binge watch the 2nd disk in the series! Cooking shows from 50 years ago are amazing. No editing, no do overs, Julia just had to get it right in one take. Basic cooking but with the knowledge to take it to a higher level. I learned and I was entertained.

Julia Child was a true teaching chef. The techniques & recipes are timeless. For example in the French onion soup segment, she teaches about knives , how to use & care for them. Totally demystified sharp knives, something I've always wanted to know. Not only does she give you classic fabulous French recipes she also gives you short cuts. And the best part is Julia is not a perfectionist, she makes mistakes and rolls with them. Of course she would like us all to make everything from scratch but she is also a realist and offers canned or frozen substitutions. Absolutely the best cooking reference DVD I own. I will watch it over and over and learn something new each time. This DVD would make a great gift to an eager young cook wanting to learn. Julie Child was a good cook and a hilarious entertainer. My friends and I used to watch her in the 70s and she was great back then and great today! Love this!
