This is a remarkable book. I bought this second copy to pass on to friends who also share an interest in history. This is perhaps the most important work I have read on the real cause of the Civil War. The myth surrounding Lincoln has blided us to the evil that this man launched upon our country. One of the most astounding facts brought out in this outstanding piece of research, is that the abolitionists were all in favor of secession! That would have meant the slaves who escaped to the North would not be subject to the Fugitive Slave Act. The South had as much a right to seceed from the United States as America did from Britain. Come to find out Lincoln supported the original 13th Amendment which would have institutionalized slavery in the Constitution. You will not be disappointed in this book. Read full review

Secular and religious humanists alike will NOT like this book. However, the truth must be known. This author very meticulously researches everything and cites some very central sources about Lincoln. The facts don't lie. The facts say that Lincoln didn't care a bit about slavery, and only presented that angle in the most public orations during the war, and only when it benefitted his nationalistic causes most. The facts say that the states did indeed have the right to secede, and Lincoln became a tyrant to keep the union together, waving everyone's constitutional and international war-making rights in the process. Lincoln was a Hamiltonian to the hilt, reflecting the same idiocy that you see in our failed economy today - 'failed system? Let's just borrow some more money to throw on it!' Lincoln, Clay, and Hamilton are pretty much the foundation for it - but no one more so than Lincoln, who fought an unjust war to shed blood and asserted scorched earth and many other unjust methods/policies. By the way, if this book reflects the views of a southerner who wrote an embittered editorial soon after the civil war, does that mean that the southerner was wrong? Sometimes unjust people win wars, and use seemingly just causes to back themselves AFTER the war. Sounds familiar, right? Just as Ron Paul said, we need to stop policing the world, we need to stop creating our own problems, like financing Al Qaeda while Russia was invading Afghanistan, and we need to play a careful and concerted effort to lead by internal example, not by being leaders of other countries (by force or otherwise). It's clear to me after reading this book that Lincoln is a source for a large number of our ill-fated policies today, including the loss of state sovereignty and a centralized (corrupt) banking system. Though many others championed it before him, few were willing to go to the cut-throat lengths that he did. Hmm, I guess the end does justify the means, and morality is after all just relative. If you take the views of Lincoln, that is. READ THIS BOOK and then weep for the sad state of our affairs. It's only then that we can start real change, not just endless rhetoric followed by more Marxism.Read full review
I was right all along, Abe L was an opportunist not a pro black person, it was all about depriving the south of a strategic advantage with slave labor. and in war "Slave Labor" is a get over.
