The original film Song of the South was banned in the U.S. for what I assume has to do with racism and bigotry, which I happen to think is absolutely preposterous, since this was a wonderful G RATED film and an early american time piece that everyone truly enjoyed watching. I don't know why Disney can't go back and re-release this film. You may think that someone in charge may have suppressed this film from coming back into mainstream, or that someone may have royalty rights tying things up, but whatever the reasons, you might never see this film again. The film introduces us to Uncle Remus, a man that stays down at the fishing hole and is able to know many different small creatures, like Brear Rabbit and the small singing birds. I'm so totally disappointed about the outcome of this, but there is nothing you can do but call up Disney yourself and ask them what is going on. I thought that censorship was unconstitutional. I don't think anyone could block the remaking of this film or would want to, but it's high time that we make things a bit less idiotic in our society. I spent my childhood watching this film, and since I'm an old man now, I expect this VHS TAPE to be passed on in video by my family to my children. I don't expect miracle, but, as I remember this film, its a child-hood story told by many people and Walt Disney. So if you never ask to see this film again on DVD, its not my fault, because, for me, I'm currently working on getting this film put back into production for everyone to enjoy from now on. I'll give this VHS a solid 5/5 for sing along quality. IF YOU LIKE MY REVIEWS, PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO LET ME KNOW BY VOTING. THANKS!Read full review
My Nephews and Nieces were raised on this tape many years ago. The songs are fantastic and the children love them. Now that they are in their 20's they remember getting together and everyone singing and dancing to the songs. "The Ugly Bug Ball" being our favorite! Now my 11 year old and 4 month old get to learn and enjoy the same things their older Cousins got to live. Love this so much!!! Taking the VHS and converting it to DVD for easy use at the house!!!
First - I have always loved the movie Song of the South - ever since I was a little girl, I have loved the tales of Brer Rabbit and Brer Fox. Of course it was only seen in theatres in the United States. I'm not totally sure I understand why that is, but anyway, the music from that movie always provides an uplifting tone for the day. My children learned the song Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah Day long before they learned Jingle Bells! You can't listen to this music without smiling and brightning your day. Ever need to be lifted up - cheering up- put a smile on your kids face? Pop this video in, enjoy the sounds and visual effect of Brer Rabbit and Uncle Remus. You and your kids will be very happy you did!
I bought this tape for my son, who has Autism. He loves the musical videos. This tape is very hard to find, so when I found it I grabbed it. Plays great, and my son laughs and jumps when we play it. Great classic songs on here, this tape is also great for word recognition, as it displays and highlights the words on the screen when sung.
I have found memories of this movie from my youth. The tune is very catchy.
