Rather than get a bunch of Thomas Hanna's (Philosophy) books about Somatics, you can just get this one, that gives a great compendium of information pertaining to the movements. The pictures and descriptions thereof, of the movements aren't very good, per se, but one should take a Somatics class, taught by a certified Somatics teacher to get the full effect (how each movement can affect you personally) and then refer to the book. The book is good, however, as an intro., as long as you don't get confused by the pictures and the descriptions. If you just stay to what Somatics IS rather than getting caught up in HOW to DO Somatics, you will be fine.
This book is filled with great encouragement for people who may be over 50 but do not wish to believe that they must have pain in their joints and that growing old is a condition that is filled with body aches. It helps to have a person who knows the moves and can guide you, however, having a person read through the exercises and movements works well.
