This mini series is a historical reflection of the life of the people who worked behind the scenes to give care, comfort and dignity to those presidents from the Taft Administration to the end of the Eisenhower Administration through the eyes of Lillian Rodgers Parks, a woman who worked at the White House during the time. Lillian's mother worked there while she was growing up. Times being hard, when her mother was able to influence the head house keeper to hire Lillian, she became a part of the rich history of the time as an observer of the many untold dramas surrounding the intimate lives of the presidents and their families. Lillian's story clearly outlines how intertwined the lives of those who work "Backstairs" become with those they serve during the stressful yet rewarding years the presidents serve the people. Sometimes humorous, sometimes deeply touching, it is a most comprehensive telling of her life and her career, as well of the details of those administrations and the major events that occurred during them.Read full review

I love everything about it.The picture is clear and the sound is perfect. I would recommend others to order from the ebay website. Thank you very much. I love it. Everyone in my family wanted to borrow it. I hope I could a great deal for my father on Fathers' Day. I love old African American movies classic. unfortunately, I'm having a hard time search for a movie called "The Man" starring James Earl Jones. It was aired on ABC movie in 1971. It's about the first African American president of the united states. I was wondering if you somehow you can find it to purchase it. That movie will be great right now since Obama is president.
I first saw this as a miniseries and enjoyed it. I then read the book and found the series was very close so I keep it in my library. I have now purchased the DVD, for my Grand Children and Great Grands, and to enjoy as television sinks lower and lower with quality programs.

I remembered watching this as a kid and loving it. On a whim I decided to see if it was available on DVD. As soon as I found it I had to get it! I again loved every minute of watching it. I sat down and watched all 4 DVD's in 2 days. It is really fun and gives you some interesting perspective on life in the White House. My kids sat and watched some of it with me and liked it to. I thought it was a great way for them to learn a little about history in a fun way. It also has some great actors in it.
