I switched to HR Block many many years ago - was a Turbo Tax user. Why did I switch? It was mainly due to cost. I was at Staples and they had a much better price on the HR Block software, so I gave it a try. Was quite a bit different to use, but once you get the hang of it, it works fine. The next year, I saw the same thing. HR Block is much less than Turbo Tax, so I stuck with it. Now that it's been almost two decades, I'm not switching back.

Confusing naming this year, had a tough time figuring out which version I needed- why the heck did H&R Block change that!?!?!??!? The 2015 version had a nice chat feature that 2016 is missing- that made a big difference when you have a question. I do like the improvement in the electronic filing, was much cleaner but I still think they should include a free e-file for State like they do for Fed- it's b.s that they charge another $20. C'mon, H&R, don't you make enough off the sale already?

On Windows 10 the Business software only loads on the Administrators account not a user account. You can edit the properties of the executable to get the icon to show on a users account but why do they make it so difficult? The Business software is fine but there is a steep learning curve. You cannot chose where to save the data files but you can back them up where you want. Why? The regular "Premium" will not let you resize the window so it is always full screen. Why? I prefer a strip of desktop icons on the left side. Written by software bullies; give the users basic freedoms. Customer Support is difficult to track down and borderline incompetent which is unfortunately typical everywhere today. Despite the complaints I use this year after year because it is cheaper than the alternative and better the devil you know. . . .Read full review

Been using Tax Act which started free for a few years, and then began to drive its price up steeply. Since I got this at a discount, it was better option. I have completed tax returns as a military volunteer, as a community volunteer (VITA) and have worked with H&R Block and Jackson Hewitt. I mention this because I can navigate around pretty much any tax preparing software since I have a good idea of what the expected outcome should be.

Been using this for 15+ years. Personal program is excellent in every way and a crazy good value compared to TurboTax. The business module has always been buggy and hard to navigate, the state program is fundamentally fill in the blanks. But I've learned the bugs and it's also a good value for business tax software.
