This War of the Worlds Collector’s Set consists of 2 discs – a DVD of the 1957 Studio One television show "The Night America Trembled" featuring legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow, and an audio CD of the original 1938 Orson Welles Mercury Theater radio production of H.G. Welles’ War of the Worlds. The Studio One show is a “docudrama” about the broadcast of the radio show that many listeners thought was a real life invasion of a fictitious city in New Jersey by the Martians. Murrow, with his ever-present cigarette (how times have changed!) knits together re-enactments of the players performing the radio show, and listeners who hear the show and panic thinking the world is soon to end. Part of the fun of watching the DVD is picking out actors who would later become stars – try to spot Ed Asner, Tom Clancy, James Coburn, and Warren Beatty! The audio CD is worth the price of the set – it’s been ages since I’ve seen the radio broadcast available. What is surprising about the broadcast is that there are multiple announcements that the broadcast is a fictional broadcast by the Mercury Theater, yet so many people thought they were listening to a news flash! So, the title of this set is a bit deceptive – if you’re looking for one of the War of the Worlds movies you’ll be disappointed, but both the DVD and CD are entertaining and worth the price. I don’t like the fact that the set is packaged in a case about twice as wide as a standard DVD case, it certainly could have been packaged in a standard 2 disc case.Read full review

I bought this item because I collect everything I can find on the war of the worlds. For me the box that it came in with pictures I had never seen was worth the money and the tapes were a bonus. allin all a great addition to anyones collection.
This was exactly what I was looking for. I remember hearing the story about the movie, and was looking for it. I am happy to have found it on ebay. It was a good value for the money. Even if it is watched only one time, it was the worth the few dollars I paid for it.
