This is a coin that made an impression on me over a long period of time. I would have to say that the distinguishing feature was Paul Kruger himself, a rather unique looking gentleman with his long, white beard and no mustache. He was born of mixed heritage to become State President of the South African Republic (Transvaal). He gained international renown as the face of Boer resistance against the British during the South African or Second Boer War (1899–1902). Affectionately, he was known as Uncle Paul (Afrikaans: "Oom Paul") Details: South Africa ZAR Penny, 1898 Catalog Number KM# 2 Bronze Weight, g: 9,47 32 mm Obverse Description Bust left [ Paul Kruger ] Obverse Legend ZUID AFRIK.REPUBLIEK Reverse Description Arms within design [ South Africa ] Reverse Denomination: Penny Reverse Year: 1898Read full review
