Finally a book that isn't filled with sickeningly sweet platitudes from some make believe father that even Disney would have a tough time imagining. Justin's dad is the guy we most of us grew up with, a coarse, frank, painfully blunt and surprisingly loving man who formed our lives in ways we still don't grasp but benefit from, regardless of our eternal cluelessness. Ward Cleaver probably thought some of the very same thoughts when Eddie Haskell and Wally got in trouble.

Justin Halpern does a great job of sharing the sarcastic but hilarious wisdom that his father has given him throughout his life. In a way, his father reminds you of someone you know (your father, uncle, etc) and it makes the book very personal. Apart from an interpersonal connection the book is hilarious! His father talks about everything from getting beat up in school to getting dumped and he does it in a comical way. This was an excellent book, worth all the accolades and press. You don't learn how to perform open heart surgery but its worth the late night read. Its the good, the bad and the hilarious aspects of growing up with a very vocal and opinionated parent.
A few hours of laughing out loud incessantly. After reading it, I bought copies for a number of people. Every single one reported back at least passing the book on with the overwhelming majority also buying more copies for more people.

I know it's a cliche, but this really is laugh out loud funny! Don't just skip to the quotes, everything is great. Make the fun last! I've already lent it to 3 people and bought one for a friend out of town!

A generationally hilarious book. I can’t say any relative lives up to this dad, but my family can muster about 85% of his honesty and brought back several awkward but funny memories.
